Ayyare is one film that has been generating a huge buzz ever since the first look was out Rajendra Prasads look bears an uncanny resemblance to Swami Nityananda.Though the movie is not about any particular Swamiji,it makes for an interesting watch.
Venkatesam (Sivaji) is a mechanic who runs his own garage.He falls in love with Anjali (Anisha Singh) who soon reciprocates his feelings.Meanwhile,Anjalis father,Siva Prasad (Siva Prasad),who learns about his daughters relationship,accepts their love on the advice of his guru Parakaya Baba (Rajendra Prasad).When things start looking rosy and the couples nuptial arrangements are on in full swing,Siva Prasad suddenly tells Venkatesams parents that he wants to call off the wedding.What caused this change of mind Who is this baba Will Venkatesam get married to Anjali All these questions get answered in the rest of the movie.
While the first half of the film drags until Rajendra Prasad enters the scene,director Sagar Chandra has made the second half of the film quite interesting.Rajendra Prasad is brilliant in the role of the baba.His performance is definitely the highlight for the film.The scenes in which he interacts with the devotees is especially entertaining and funny.Sivaji as a carefree guy is good.But the director could have improvized on his character better in the first half of the film.Sai Kumar fits the bill of a cop perfectly once again.This time around,he plays it with a negative shade.Anisha Singh too impresses and one can never guess that this is her first film.Srinivas Reddy manages to evoke a few laughs,while Siva Prasads politico act is convincing.MS Narayana,Ali and Venu Madhav are wasted in a poorly etched comedy track.Musicwise,except the item song,the rest are forgettable.
Though the film is made on a tight budget,the directors attempt to tackle the subject of mindless idolization of Godmen and fake babas is laudable.
